Hazen Names Scott Arends Senior Associate and Midwest Water Resources Infrastructure Lead

Over his 25 year career, Mr. Arends has led the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, peer review, forensic failure analysis, and design, plans, and specifications for numerous dams and complex water resources structures throughout the country.

(NEW YORK, NY - August 10, 2021) - Hazen and Sawyer has announced the appointment of Scott Arends as Senior Associate and Midwest Water Resources Infrastructure Lead.

Over his 25 year career, Mr. Arends has led the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, peer review, forensic failure analysis, and design, plans, and specifications for numerous dams and complex water resources structures throughout the country. His notable experience includes project management and design of floodwall segments for the City of Cedar Rapids (Iowa) 3.5 mile long West Flood Risk Management System, the award-winning water control structure at the Emiquon Nature Preserve, multiple CCR dam impoundments, large river bridges, and design, peer review, and value engineering studies for numerous USACE dam rehabilitation and flood risk management projects across the country.

Mr. Arends was on the team leading 2D modeling efforts in the Maple River Aqueduct Value Based Design Charrette, which was recognized by both SAVE International's 2013 award for Outstanding Value Management in Government to the St. Paul District, and the Department of Defense’s 2012 Value Engineering Achievement Award to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He also spent 10 years as a dam safety and floodplain regulatory engineer for the State of Illinois, and is a member of SAME, AWWA, and an active committee member for the Association of State Dam Safety Officials.

Mr. Arends has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Western Illinois University. He is a licensed PE in seven states and a Certified Floodplain Manager in Illinois.
