From Assistant Engineer to President: Alan Stone Featured in The CEO Magazine
(RALEIGH, NC – November 4, 2026) – Thirty-seven years ago, Alan Stone joined Hazen as an assistant engineer. Today, as the Firm’s President, he's featured in The CEO Magazine, a global business publication for senior executives.
In the profile, Alan shares the values that have guided Hazen from day one through our 75th anniversary year: doing right by clients, taking care of our people, and hiring the smartest minds in the business. He also looks to the firm's future, from leaning into water reuse to using AI to augment—not replace—the skills and judgment of our technical experts.
Alan also points to long-standing client relationships, including Hazen’s work with Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) on the the Sustainable Water Infrastructure for Tomorrow (SWIFT) program, that show how close, careful collaboration delivers lasting value.
“If we stay true to our core principles, I think we can look back 75 years from now and we’ll still be the best water firm in the world,” said Alan. “That’s what I hope.”
