Protecting the Chino Basin

Last Modified Apr 15, 2024

Communities in arid regions like the western U.S. have struggled for decades with a difficult choice: to import water or to treat contaminated groundwater. The economics around this decision have changed considerably, leading more communities to make the choice the Chino Desalter Authority (CDA) made long ago.

CDA operates two facilities that use granular activated carbon (GAC), reverse osmosis (RO), ion exchange (IX), and air stripping to turn groundwater into drinking water. In doing so it provides a reliable, high-quality, and cost-controlled local water supply for the surrounding communities. A new digital dashboard provides real-time membrane performance information, enabling CDA to more efficiently manage its membranes, rather than just switch them out according to a manufacturer-recommended schedule.
