Hazen’s Dr. Bill Becker Appointed to EPA Science Advisory Board

(NEW YORK, NY – April 28, 2026) – Hazen and Sawyer’s Dr. Bill Becker was recently appointed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science Advisory Board (SAB).

As a member of the SAB, Bill will join a prestigious panel of some of the nation’s top scientists to provide independent advice to the EPA Administrator on scientific and technical issues underlying EPA policies and decision making in support of the agency’s mission of protecting public health and the environment.

Bill is a Vice President and the former Corporate Drinking Water Practice Leader at Hazen and an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Previously, he was a Scholar-in-Residence and co-director of the Water Reuse Program at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Over the course of his career, Bill has taught thousands of operators, engineers, and graduate students, authored more than 200 technical presentations and publications, directed several Water Research Foundation projects on a variety of drinking water topics, and consulted for more than 100 utilities of all sizes across the country.

The SAB was established in 1978 by the Environmental Research, Development, and Demonstration Authorization Act to provide independent advice to the EPA Administrator on scientific and technical matters underlying the agency's major policies and actions. Candidates are nominated by the public and then appointed by the EPA Administrator to a three-year term.
