Operations Support and Dashboards of Four Groundwater Membrane Treatment Plants

Client: Irvine Ranch Water District
Location: Irvine, CA

For the City of Irvine CA, Hazen developed a program called ‘MemOps’ that automatically collects and cleans up data points directly from the supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA). The project has helped reduce data analysis for IRWD by over 90%.

We developed a program called ‘MemOps’ that automatically collects and cleans up data points directly from the SCADA system for use with normalization and dashboard tracking against key performance indicators (KPI). The project has helped reduce data analysis for IRWD by over 90%.

This project involved selecting data points, normalizing data and preparing customized dashboard reports to display key information.

Project Outcomes and Benefits

  • Developed a program called ‘MemOps’, that automatically collects and cleans up data points directly from the supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) for use with normalization and dashboard tracking against key performance indicators.
  • Reduced data analysis for IRWD by over 90%.
  • Provided technical advice on additional instrumentation for improved data trending and optimization of the membrane processes.

Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) has four groundwater membrane facilities utilizing reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. IRWD performed the process of data cleanup and normalization of RO data through a series of manufacturer provided excel spreadsheets which was cumbersome and time consuming for staff and prone to potential errors. It was estimated that IRWD staff spent approximately 10 hours per plant per month to process a months data. With four plants, this amounted to 40 hours per month per person spent only on data processing. Hazen developed a program called ‘MemOps’, that automatically collects and cleans up data points directly from the supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) for use with normalization and dashboard tracking against key performance indicators (KPI). The project has helped reduce data analysis for IRWD by over 90%. This project involved selecting data points, normalizing data and preparing customized dashboard reports to display key information. Hazen also provided technical advice on additional instrumentation for improved data trending and optimization of the membrane processes.
