The SWIFT Research Center is an advanced treatment facility that incorporates an 8-step process to prepare the water for recharging the Potomac Aquifer. Since this is a first-of-its-kind project in Virginia, results from the Research Center were critical for gaining buy-in and support from regulatory agencies, residents, and local environmental groups.

(FAIRFAX, VA – July 10, 2018) – The Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow program has been awarded a 2018 US Water Prize by the US Water Alliance.

Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD)’s Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow program, or SWIFT, embodies One Water management by delivering multiple benefits to the region today and for generations to come.
