Two Projects Named National Award Winners
(NEW YORK, NY – May 16, 2016) – Two projects managed wholly or in joint venture by Hazen and Sawyer were recently named ACEC National Recognition Award winners at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on April 19th, in Washington D.C.
The award-winning projects are:
• The completed Gilboa Dam Rehabilitation restored all features to their original functionality, upgraded the dam to current industry criteria, and provided an enhanced dam safety monitoring and reporting system. Cutting edge anchor technology included 80 post-tension rock anchors for spillway stability. These anchors consisted of 58 strands with more than 1,000 tons of service load per anchor – approaching the limits of technology, and are the highest-capacity rock anchors used to date in New York, equaled only by a few others worldwide.
• For the Florida Onsite Wastewater Nitrogen Reduction Strategies Study, seven full-scale prototype systems were developed to demonstrate potential reduction in nitrogen loadings from septic systems, which currently serve 30% of Florida residents. The new nitrogen reduction system designs consistently achieved over 95% removal of influent wastewater nitrogen.
The Florida nitrogen reduction project received an Honor award, while the Gilboa Dam rehabilitation received a Grand award.
