Our comprehensive Environmental Assessment identified innovative and tailored erosion and sediment control practices and permanent features to protect the sensitive natural resources surrounding the Gilboa Dam.

In addition to the development of the treatment process, including the pilot testing, Hazen and Sawyer is involved in developing the regulatory standards for implementation and long-term operation of a project that will contribute 21 mgd of recharge to the Biscayne Aquifer, paving the way for additional, much-needed reuse projects in Florida.

The Croton WTP Environmental Impact Study was recognized by the New York Association of Consulting Engineers, winning the 2005 Diamond Award.

Designated a Water Caution Area by the State of Florida, water reuse was a key component for successful permitting of the City of Miramar WWTP.

Preliminary engineering for the upgrade and expansion of the Nansemond WWTP included wetlands delineation, environmental assessments, and securing all Federal, State and local permits.

The Environmental Impact Study for the Cat-Del UV facility set the stage for world’s largest UV facility, which may save New York City more than $1.5 billion in construction costs and $25 million/year in operation costs (over filtration), and contain consumer water rates.

Hazen and Sawyer was the lead consultant for developing Sanitation District No.1 of Northern Kentucky’s Nine Minimum Controls (NMC) Compliance program and documentation, which was approved by the reviewing agencies without comment. This effort included assisting the District in fully implementing the NMCs system-wide and documenting compliance to the SPDES permitting agency as mandated by Consent Decree.

Hazen and Sawyer was retained for planning, pilot testing, permitting, design, construction supervision, and assistance with startup/operation of the new 20-mgd Reverse Osmosis system at the South Collier Regional Water Treatment Plant to treat brackish groundwater from the Hawthorn Aquifer.

The UCONN wastewater reuse project set an important precedent in terms of establishing regulatory guidelines for the growth of reuse in the northeast.

Large-scale environmental infrastructure projects are typically subject to the Environmental Review process. While this process varies from state to state, these reviews entail a comprehensive and detailed evaluation of the potential environmental impacts that a project could incur, along with measures that could be implemented to mitigate these impacts. These projects also require a significant number of permits and agency approvals, often at federal, state, and local levels, making the approval process a complex and time-consuming effort.

Hazen and Sawyer has assisted numerous clients prepare Environmental Assessments and Impact Statements for a wide range of environmental infrastructure projects, successfully negotiating the complicated Environmental Review process within tight timeframes, as needed to support the project schedule. We have evaluated impacts of project on features such as water quality, natural, cultural, and historic resources, traffic, noise, viewscape, utilities, and induced growth, among others.

We help our clients identify practical and cost-effective alternatives for mitigating any significant adverse impacts, and assist in implementing these recommendations.
