Water quality in New York Harbor is currently impacted by combined sewage and stormwater overflows from any of the City’s 14 water pollution control plants that can occur during intense rainfall events. Hazen and Sawyer has been selected (in joint venture) by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to lead the development of innovative and long-term sustainable measures for containing storm water and reducing Combined Sewer Overflow discharges. These changes are part of the Mayor’s PlaNYC 2030 initiatives to demonstrate that the City can reduce CSOs substantially by making incremental investments over the next 20 years.
