Three Projects Named ACEC-NY Award Winners

The completed Gilboa Dam Rehabilitation restored all features to their original functionality, upgraded the dam to current industry criteria, and provided an enhanced dam safety monitoring and reporting system.

For the Newtown Creek project, a total of 21 unique thickening alternatives were evaluated utilizing 40 parameters to facilitate a comprehensive, unbiased comparison of all options.

The Avenue V upgrade enabled DEP to reduce the annual average CSO volume to Coney Island Creek by 78%.

(NEW YORK, NY – November 16, 2015) – Three projects, all managed wholly or in joint venture by Hazen and Sawyer, were recently named ACEC-NY Engineering Excellence Award winners.

The Gilboa Dam Rehabilitation and the Newtown Creek Alternative Thickening Evaluation were named Diamond award winners, while Avenue V Pump Station Upgrade was named a Platinum award winner.

The Engineering Excellence Awards are presented to projects that encompassed both the public and private sector in the following categories: studies, research, and consulting services; building/technology systems; structural systems; surveying and mapping technology; environmental; waste and storm water; water resources; transportation; energy; industrial and manufacturing processes and facilities; and special projects.

These winners will be honored at the 49th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) Gala, which will take place at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on March 19, 2016. The winner of the Empire Award — an award given to the highest rated project in New York State — will be announced at the EEA Gala. All Diamond Award projects designed and built in New York State are in contention for the Empire Award.
