Research to Provide Industry Guidance for the Stage 2 D/DBPR
(NEW YORK, NY – April 27, 2012) – The Water Research Foundation has selected Hazen and Sawyer to provide industry guidance for compliance with the Stage 2 Disinfectant / Disinfection Byproduct Rule (D/DBPR). Most large utilities are prepared for Stage 2 D/DBPR, but many small- and medium-sized systems have yet to fully address the various changes in treatment and management practices that may be necessary to meet the new requirements.
Additionally, while a vast amount of research has been performed to understand formation and minimization of DBPs, most of the information is difficult to access and/or difficult to interpret by the utilities that need it most. The goal of this project is to assemble the information into a definitive, understandable, and results-oriented guidance document and decision support tool, focused directly on helping small- and medium- sized systems determine what options and steps are most applicable to their particular Stage 2 compliance needs.
Hazen and Sawyer will rely upon our vast experience assisting our clients with Stage 2 D/DBPR compliance to assemble the important information and develop a compliance toolkit, comprised of a guidance manual, accompanying interactive web-based tool, and a series of workshops aimed at helping utilities to assess their compliance situation and evaluate potential compliance options.
Since our founding in 1951, Hazen and Sawyer has focused on two things: providing safe drinking water and controlling water pollution. Our range of services encompasses the planning, design, and construction management of water and wastewater-related projects – from clean water treatment, storage, and distribution to wastewater and stormwater collection, treatment, and reuse.
