The Firm is looking for an individual to develop and grow a sustainable membrane practice at Hazen and Sawyer. This position will report to the Firm’s Water Reuse Practice Leader and/or the Water Process Leader, will be responsible for leading company-wide desalination and membrane-based water reuse efforts, and pursuing new business opportunities.
The following skills and background are desired:
· Ability to identify and pursue business opportunities; develop strategic partnerships; mentor junior-level staff in all aspects of membrane design and implementation.
· Extensive technical expertise with the following RO- and NF-related membrane areas: water and wastewater characterization, basis of design, evaluating alternatives, feasibility studies, treatability testing, process definition, permitting, all phases of design (e.g., preliminary and detailed), startup and commissioning of treatment systems, full-scale water system performance evaluations/ troubleshooting, and water, wastewater, and water reuse treatment residuals management.
· Knowledge of membrane design and selection software.
· Demonstrated expertise in evaluating process water chemistry and defining alternatives for improvement and/or treatment, including brackish water desalination, inland desalination, and water reuse systems.
· Extensive project management experience for public and private utilities/clients.
· Proven success with business practices such as project pursuits and project management.
Candidates for this position must possess the following qualifications:
· BS in Chemical, Environmental or Civil Engineering or related engineering and science discipline required; MS or PhD in Chemical, Environmental, or Civil Engineering preferred.
· Registration as Professional Engineer or equivalent.
· 10+ years experience in membrane and desalination projects for municipal clients.
· Additional experience in other water and wastewater process design, planning, and permitting areas.
· Proven track record and recognition by the professional community as a technical leader in the industry as demonstrated through publications, presentations, and successful project implementation. Well known and positioned with strategic clients in US.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills – 10 years experience writing and communicating complex technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines and travel across North America.

The candidate should also have experience with instrumentation and control systems, including field and panel instruments, operator interfaces, and PLCs.
