Timothy, Office Engineer

“On a daily basis, I use my Civil Engineering background and people skills to solve technical problems and keep my projects moving forward.”

My Role at Hazen and Sawyer

I am an Office Engineer at a Hazen and Sawyer Construction Management field office. A typical day involves using my knowledge and skills to recognize, track and assist in solving issues that arise during construction.

Why I Chose Hazen and Sawyer

I chose Hazen and Sawyer for several reasons. As a young engineer, the opportunity to work in a field environment was very enticing, especially when it was explained to me that I would be working in a substantive manner alongside engineers, designers and project managers with years of experience.

Secondly, from my very first contact with the company I felt that I would be recognized for my contributions and treated as a person rather than a number. From the outset, Hazen and Sawyer has supported and encouraged my continuing education towards my Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering.

A Contribution I’m Proud of

One project that I am proud of is my contribution to the improved quality of New York City’s surrounding waterbodies. New York City is an older city designed with a combined sanitary and storm sewer system. Heavy precipitation can overload the system, and we have played a major role in designing and managing the construction of facilities to mitigate this problem.

In my current role, I assist in the construction management of one such Hazen and Sawyer-designed facility. Integrating a new CSO facility with an older operating system requires extensive coordination, cooperation, and the application of engineering knowledge and tools to keep the project going when unforeseeable conditions and changes occur.
