Enrique, Principal Engineer

“Hazen and Sawyer offers the 'best of both worlds' - it is a mid-size firm with a small firm’s company culture and a large firm’s career opportunities.”

My Role at Hazen and Sawyer

I am a Principal Engineer and have recently acquired my Professional Engineering License. I have been working with Hazen and Sawyer for four years and in that time I’ve had several different roles/tasks including running a pilot plant, detailed design, project management, and student recruitment. I am currently an active member of Hazen and Sawyer’s reclamation & reuse, sustainability and wastewater process groups.

Why I Chose Hazen and Sawyer

Hazen and Sawyer is unique. It offers the “best of both worlds” being that it is a mid-size firm with a small firm’s company culture and a large firm’s career opportunities.

After graduating with my masters in Environmental Engineering, I interviewed with several consulting and industry firms. My main objective was to find a firm where I could build a career. During my interview I was very impressed with Hazen and Sawyer’s commitment to professional development and employee retention. This was evident when I sat down with several people that had been working there for over forty years.

Hazen and Sawyer’s horizontal company structure allows young engineers to work directly with industry leaders on many diverse projects. This really appealed to me, in addition to the lack of bureaucracy and “let’s get the job done right” mentality.

A Contribution I’m Proud Of

A project that I am proud of is my work on the Plantation Pilot Project, the first indirect potable reuse project in the state of Florida using dual membrane technology. Although I was fresh out of school, Hazen and Sawyer over time gave me a more significant role in running the project, which included pilot testing, writing reports, conducting meetings, presenting results, and subsequently publishing several articles for national and state journals.
